Some Small Collections of Alpheid Shrimp from the Indian Ocean, Including Two New Species

چکیده
Some small collections of alpheid shrimp resulting from the participation of the United States research vessels in the International Indian Ocean Expeditions are reported: 53 species in six genera were collected, with many of the collection records extending the known range of the various species within the Indian Ocean. Two new species are described from the deeper sublittoral zone: Synalpheus cretoculatus from off the southern tip of Burma and Synalpheus somalia from the oceanic coast of Somalia near the Gulf of Aden. . INCIDENTAL TO THE American participation in the International Indian Ocean Expeditions in 1962-1964, small collections were made of alpheid shrimp, some by dredging but mostly by shore collecting. These collections, contaiping about 450 individual specimens intact enough for identification, and representing 53 species in six genera, were made available to us by the Smithsonian Oceanographic Sorting Center. Many of these specimens represent new records for zoogeography, and two new deeper-water species of the genus Synalpheus were included in the specimens.

Description of two species in the alpheid shrimp genus Athanas Leach, 1814, with remarks on A. amazone Holthuis, 1951 (Decapoda, Caridea)
Two new species of the alpheid genus Athanas Leach, 1814 are described and illustrated. Athanas sydneyensis n. sp., is described on the basis of several specimens collected near Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. This species is closely related to the polymorphic A. phyllocheles Banner & Banner, 1983 known only from La Reunion in the southwestern Indian Ocean. Athanas ivoiriensis n. sp., is de...

A new species of the alpheid shrimp genus Athanas Leach, 1814 is described based on a single specimen, an ovigerous female from Nha Trang Bay, Vietnam. Athanas manticolus sp. nov. differs from all other species of Athanas by the presence of a small post-rostral tubercle, combined with a minutely toothed rostrum, reduced extra-corneal teeth, and the absence of infra-corneal and supra-corneal tee...

The aim of the present study was to determine various types of hemocytes, total and differential hemocyte count and to show some indices of phagocytosis, including percent phagocytosis and phagocytic index in Indian white shrimp, Fenneropenaeus indicus in Iranian shrimp farms. The hemolymph was extracted from the shrimps and mixed with anticoagulant. It then stained and Yeast was added as forei...

A new species of the alpheid shrimp genus Triacanthoneus Anker, 2010, is described based on material collected in a marine cave off Caye Chapel, Belize. Triacanthoneus chapelianus sp. nov. is the fifth species in the genus and can be distinguished from the other four species by the position of the dorsolateral teeth on the carapace, which in the new species have an anterior (= submarginal) posi...
